A new baby means a lot of new decisions. One thing that you may never have found yourself worrying about before is the surfaces of your home. You’ve filled your nursery with furniture, painted the walls, and hung the mobile – but what about the floors?

Carpet

For many new parents, carpet is the only choice to allow baby a soft place to play, as comfort is always a key consideration for a Nursery . The floor plays an important role in a nursery. It’s where your baby will start to play, tumble around, and grow. Additionally, the softer your carpet is, the less the sound will travel to other rooms. In addition to choosing a soft and comfortable carpet, be sure to consider the padding under the carpet as well for extra comfort and insulation!

Wood Flooring

One of the standards in the flooring industry is hardwood. Known for being strong, durable and easy to clean, hardwood is a great option for a baby’s first room because of its durability and the fact that it does not absorb allergens or chemicals.

If you decide to go with a hardwood floor, make sure you include an area rug for when your little one gets to the crawling stages.

Cork and Bamboo Floors

For the eco-friendly parents out there, cork and bamboo offer a unique alternative to hardwood. For the most part, cork and bamboo are offered in as many colors and finishes as hardwood, but at a lower cost and are generally better for the environment due to the sustainability of the materials.

One thing to consider when installing cork flooring is that the porous nature of the material can make it harder to clean and is more likely to trap harmful allergens, dust and mold in the crevices.

Chances are, your nursery now won’t be a nursery forever. Changing your flooring can get expensive so make sure you think about what the future might bring before you finalize your decision .
